Steve Richard Dyba, age 74, of Miles City passed away on July 27, 2008 at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City.

He was born February 18, 1934 in Miles City and was the son of Margaret (Schantz) and Paul Dyba, Sr.  As a young boy he lived with his family on the ranch at Rosebud Creek until 1960 when the family moved to their Cohagen ranch.  At Cohagen, the family farmed 8,000 acres and raised cattle and sheep.  In 1970, the family moved to the Yellowstone Valley just east of Miles City where they farmed and had livestock.  From 1972-1975 Steve operated his own hardware store in Miles City, named the Country Merchant.  He later worked for Randall Lumber and then Pine Hills State Correctional Facility until his retirement.  He graduated from Rosebud High School in 1952 and later attended college at Carroll College and Miles Community College.

He married Lavina Tait in June 1955, and to this union four children were born; Steven, Katherine, Karen and Kristine.  He later married Patricia Doty and joyfully adopted her two sons Jay and Todd.

Steve was active for many years in bowling, horseshoe pitching and was an avid pool player.  After retirement, he took up gardening and canning and was known for his special “Salsa” recipe.  He was a loyal Notre Dame fan and enjoyed watching all their football and basketball games on TV.  He spent most of his time recently as a volunteer at the VFW club cooking for events and enjoyed spending time with all his friends and was a member of the Eagles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his spouse Patricia.  He is survived by his special companion, Frances Miller; his children, Steven (Lynn) Dyba, Jr of Trinidad, TX; Katherine (Gary) Walker of Sheridan, WY; Karen (Dan) Minkoff of Chariton, IA; Kristine (Paul) Dionne of Billings, MT; Jay Dyba, Yuma, AZ; Todd Dyba, one brother Paul (Nancy) Dyba, Jr of Miles City; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
